Sand martin richness
Great excitement this morning as around 60 Sand martins were feeding over the reserve, then some twenty were observed at close quarters as they checked out the sand martin hide nesting banks. Several poked their heads in to the tunnels while many more hovered at the face. Although these birds are on their autumn migration it would seem to bode well for a good return of birds to start the nesting colony next spring.
There was also 10 Grey herons out the scrape areas this morning, with lots of noisy squabbles between the juveniles.
