Greenland White-fronted Geese

The Greenland white-fronted goose is now one of the rarest geese that visit the UK.

The geese migrate between Scotland and Greenland via Iceland - including an incredible flight up and over the 1.5 mile high ice cap. Surveys by the Greenland White-fronted Goose Study Group have shown that numbers have declined sharply in recent years, dropping from some 35,500 in 1998 to just 25,000 in 2006.

Top Goose

As part of our conservation work with Greenland white-fronted geese, WWT has teamed up with BBC Radio 4's World on the Move in a research first. This year, we are following three individual Greenland white-fronted geese, three Brent geese and three Barnacle geese as they make their epic migrations and compare how much fuel they need to complete them.

Which one will get their first? Will they all make it? Which one will be Top Goose?

Find out how our Top Geese are getting on, read the Greenland white-fronted goose diary.
