Mapping opportunities for large-scale wetland creation in the UK

The Blue Recovery Fund brings likeminded individuals and businesses together with one shared vision – to create and restore UK wetlands for nature, people, and the climate. Invesco is the biggest contributor to the Blue Recovery Fund and is also a key member of the Blue Recovery Leaders Group.

We are proud to have teamed up with Invesco, a global investment company. Through Invesco’s support of the Blue Recovery Fund, WWT will be launching a pioneering digital mapping tool to identify where wetlands can provide the greatest benefit by overlaying open-source data sets which quantify flood risk, water quality and physical and mental wellbeing. This will enable policymakers, landowners, and other stakeholders to make informed decisions on where and how to create wetlands that will deliver the greatest value to people and nature.

Invesco are supporting the development of a case for Blue Carbon Investment, through their support of the Blue Recovery Fund, financing WWT’s research and the acquisition of pilot sites that will act as case studies to demonstrate the value of wetlands.

Since the partnership started, Invesco have become members of the Blue Recovery Leaders Group. The Blue Recovery Leaders Group is intended to bring industry-leading businesses together with WWT to help make the goal of bigger, better wetlands in the UK a reality. As a member of the group, Invesco will be offering its own skills and expertise to a number of other projects, which may include the co-design of projects to help unlock private investment into wetland creation, or collaborating with a broader group of stakeholders.

Another key part of our partnership which we are really proud of, is Invesco employee volunteering. In the first six months of our partnership in 2023, 37 Invesco volunteers across three days got stuck in helping with on-site reserve management tasks at London Wetland Centre. In 2024 we are looking forward to hosting another three volunteer days, and Invesco’s first volunteering day at Slimbridge!
