2 Spoonbill, Curlew Sandpipers and a Spotted Redshank

Rushy

Great start to the morning, the Rushy was packed with 176 Teal some wigeon and a pintail. A scattering of waders included 2 curlew  sandpipers, a spotted redshank and a handful of Ruff and redshank. A cettis was singing at the back of the pond, a gang of pied wagtails and 2 Grey wagtails were on the islands and a kingfisher flashed through.

Holden tower and approach hides

A large flock of greylag and wigeon were on the grain dump in-front of the Robbie Garnett but flushed by a flyby of other geese. A mobile group of 8 ruff dropped in for a spell. The hedge at the Knott hide was full of warblers with at least 3 Blackcap 3 Chiffchaff and a willow warbler, a water rail showed briefly at the Martin Smith hide. Quiet on the Dumbles early on with a scattering of greylag, canada and Barnacle geese but by 11.00 two spoonbills could be seen distantly to the south.

South Lake

Good birding here again with an impressive 110 Shoveler and 200 teal, 76 Tufted and 7 pochard were on the lake. At least 24 Ruff were here contributing to over 40 on site today. Only 35 black tailed godwit, 26 redshank and a scattering of snipe especially close to the Hogarth hide.

Zeiss Hide

Dominated by 360 Teal and 22 shoveler, some more very mobile ruff often feeding in the fiels with a small flock of wigeon and greylags. Two cettis were singing one close to the hide and another towards the back.

Kingfisher hide

More ruff and a handful of curlew were feeding in the center of the field along with 240 wigeon. The red breasted goose looked great among a flock of barnacle geese if only it provenance was a little better!
