200+ Snipe

After yesterday's non stop rain today looks like a far better proposition. It's been a good few weeks for Snipe on the reserve with at least 200 present around the site including individual counts of 119 on the Mere and 65 from the Harrier Hide.

Pink-footed Geese are unmissable with around 8000 present, coming in and out during the day.

Other waders include 1000 Lapwing, 15+ Ruff including some smart juveniles, Greenshank, Green Sandpiper and 10+ Black-tailed Godwit.

Good numbers of Marsh Harrier have been arriving. Martin Mere and the surrounding area is good for wintering raptors. Currently at least 7 Marsh Harrier have been logged, Peregrine (juv), 5+ Buzzard, 2 Kestrel and 2 Sparrowhawk.

Over 500 Teal and smaller numbers of Wigeon and Pintail newly arrived.
