1. Immerse yourself in Illuminature

Tickets are now on sale for the holiday light show, which returns to London Wetland Centre for the second year. It’s a unique chance to interact with nature at night, as you meander through large sculptures of wildlife and interactive light features. Night-vision binoculars will also be available to allow you to take in all that nature has to offer.

This event isn’t just a version of the popular light trail concept. Last year, Illuminature attracted a high number of visitors to London Wetland Centre, half of them have never visited the wetland before. We hope many of them will return to the centre to connect deeper with nature and support conservation work. Your tickets will help to keep this event going and introduce more people to the magic of wildlife and nature.

2. Collect these Christmas cards

Our gift shop stocks a range of beautifully designed Christmas cards, many of them are exclusive to WWT. They are printed on Forest Stewardship Council-certified card and packaged in compostable cellos, so you can be sure that your holiday message is wrapped in kindness for the environment.

The above cards feature a festive interpretation of the WWT logo, created exclusively for the trust by Merseyside artist and designer Gerard Campbell. This pack of 10 cards features two different colours of the two swans logo, surrounded by festive foliage.

3. Fabulous food finds

It’s not a proper Christmas without the holiday feast and all the trimmings. For the foodies, sample the shortbread from Sara Miller, which comes in an elegant, elongated tin; find Fudge Kitchen’s fudge, made with thick Dorset clotted cream and free from artificial flavouring and colouring; and bite into half a dozen flavours of biscotti bites from the Artful Baker.

Did you know: the honey range is the most popular product at London Wetland Centre’s gift shop?

4. Capture Christmas in a bottle

Moving onto a treat for the olfactory system, the Christmas in A Bottle fragrance oil features a combination of cinnamon, orange, cloves and a blend of other spices. This is a bottle that packs a cheerful punch and makes the perfect stocking filler.

If you are taking this bottle home, also consider picking up some of our Christmas decorations that are fragranced with this magical bottle. If you want to be creative with DIYs, you can add the oil to your own potpourri, oil burners and dried flowers.

5. Become a London Wetland Centre member, or simply stop by for a visit

We are 364 days a year, except for Christmas Day. If the end-of-the-year rush is making you feel overwhelmed, stop by London Wetland Centre for a stroll, or add this to your holiday activity list. Country Living recently mentioned WWT sites as one of the places to visit for an eco-friendly holiday. “Simply being better informed about nature and wildlife can make us better global citizens, as seeing the impact of climate change first-hand can help nudge us to change our behaviour,” the article said.

Did you know you can also gift a membership? It’s a gift that lasts long after the Christmas tree comes down, and will see your loved ones through the next four seasons. It truly is a gift that goes further.
