60 Avocet

Colder than the weekend with a strong breezy and a brief shower early morning. Reports from today and the weekend.

As expected a further increase of Avocet now 60 birds, mostly loafing around from the Ron Barker Hide. One colour ringed bird present was ringed as a chick May 2015 at Seal Sands Teesmouth.

At least 600 Lapwing, 89 Oystercatcher, 53 Ruff, 18 Black-tailed Godwit.

The usual selection of raptors seen over the past couple of days with Sparrowhawk, Kestrel, Buzzard (3+), Peregrine, Merlin and Marsh Harrier (Sunday).

Barn Owl early on and Tawny Owl (a male) calling during the day in the usual spot.

On the outer walk 3 Little Egret feeding the field between Marsh Moss Lane and the reserve boundary, also c.40 Fieldfare there. Further on, Chiffchaff, Song Thrush, Bullfinch, Meadow Pipit and Skylark.

Cetti's Warbler calling on the Reed Bed Walk, Reed Bunting there too.
