Monday sightings

Rushy Hide and Peng Observatory

270+ Tufted Duck, 130 Pochard, 80 Bewick's Swans and three Ruff were present at dawn.

Tack Piece

Large numbers of duck first thing this morning but they dispersed and numbers thinned out when the Buzzards became active, a male Pheasant flushed some of the ducks on the flood as it made it's way along the flood shore. Wader numbers increased during the day with large flocks of Lapwing dominating the field. 64 Shelduck, 2 Little Stint, 20 Curlew, 26 Ruff and 54 Redshank were also present at dawn. The Black-tailed Godwit flock moved from the South Lake roost to feed here later in the day. Six E. White-fronted Geese were on the flood at dawn but the flock remained mostly hidden in fields to the North.

Holden Tower

Out on the Severn estuary over high tide were 70+ Pintail and 100s of Wigeon. The Dumbles held 81 Great Black-backed Gull, an impressive roost of 470 Curlew, the Red-breasted Goose was with the Barnacle Geese and flocks of Lapwing were present in the longer grass.

Zeiss Hide

1614 Teal were counted, 5 Pintail, 30 Wigeon, 800+ Dunlin, 1000+ Lapwing, 48 Snipe, 700+ Golden Plover.

Two Treecreeper were in the Spinney Wood

South Lake

149 Shoveler, 13 Snipe (Hogarth Hide), 90 Teal, Oystercatcher 400 Lapwing and 16 Gadwall.

Willow Hide

Water Rail under the feeders.

General

8 Stonechat were counted on the reserve today, two of which were seen on the Four score field fences, viewable from Kingfisher Hide looking to the SE.
