Today's sightings

Rushy Hide

Now eight pairs of Black-headed Gull on nests on the lower pond and five half hearted nests on the top pond island. Three pairs of Avocet are on nests, 12 birds in total on the lower pond. A pair of Oystercatcher and a pair of Lapwing still present.

Tack Piece

Single drake Wigeon and Teal, three drake Shoveler and one female, 6 Gadwall, 26 Mute Swan and 36 Shelduck.

Holden Tower

Pill Box Pool (adjacent East of the tower)

Two pairs of Little Grebe on the "Pill box pool" along with a Shoveler, the nesting pair of Mute Swan, Tufted Ducks and Mallards.

On the Dumbles and Dumbles scrape

6+ Lapwing, 48 Avocet, two drake and single female Shoveler, 16 Greylag, 10 Canada Geese, pair of Oystercatcher, Whimbrel and Skylarks.

On the estuary

34 Shelduck, 21 Dunlin, 5 Ringed Plover and a Peregrine

South Lake

242 Black-tailed Godwit, 15 Avocet, male Ruff, male Lapwing, 5 Mediterranean Gulls (2 adults, 3cy summer, x2 2cy), 5 Teal, brood of Mallard, Oystercatcher pair, Great Crested Grebe, 70+ pairs of nesting Black-headed Gull and a Common Sandpiper from the Hogarth Hide. 6+ Sand Martin plus a few Swallows and House Martins over the deep lake.

Zeiss Hide

Singing Sedge and Reed Warbler, Reed Bunting, 12 Avocet, 2 Redshank, 2 Black-tailed Godwit, pair of Wigeon, 4 drake and one female Shoveler, 6 Teal and 8 Lapwing.

Kingfisher Hide

6 Teal, 10 Lapwing, 4 Redshank on the flood.

Plenty of singing Reed Warbler and two Sedge Warbler in the South Finger filtration reed bed.

Late news for yesterday

A Swift over North, the Glossy Ibis fed in the fen pool at the Martin Smith Hide and occasionally the Rushy Pen.
