Great White Egret

Mid point Summer Walkway

Opened for the first time this year, great to be able to get out to the estuary again. Bit quiet for birds but lots of Shelduck a Heron, Reed and Sedge Warbleres anda Wheatear along the Dumbles edge.

Holden Tower and Walkway

Avocet dominating the Holden Scrape with 76 birds 30 of which seem to be incubating. A Peregrine was on the Dumbles edge and 2 Oystercatcher close to the hide. A little Egret was joined briefly by a great White Egret in front of the Martin Smith Hide. Reed Warbler, Sedge, Reed Bunting and a Little Grebe were giving good close if sporadic views from the Willow and Knott hides. A Water Vole was showing for the patient observers from the holes in the walls. An Egyptian Goose was in the Tack piece as was a single Crane.

Rushy

The Cranes, Monty and sedge still incubating here, a pair of Lapwing have 2 young on the back meadow and several pairs of Avocets are prospecting around the site.

South Lake

Loads of action from the breeding B H Gulls, the 2 Med Gulls still occupying a territory and a third 1st summer bird hanging around the causeway. The cranes Bart and Ruby are incubating close to the Hogarth Hide. Great Crested Grebe looking great on the main lake.

The South Finger, Zeiss and Kingfisher hides

The Blackwit flock (97) looking great from the Zeiss. Reed Warbler and Bunting close to the hide. More singing warblers along the walkway including Reed, Sedge, Blackcap, Chiffchaff and Cettis Warblers. Very quiet at the Kingfisher but one change over noted at 10.20. A little Grebe is showing well in front of the hide.
