A really nice birdwatch morning

A group of 15 enjoyed a morning walk event around the site today

Rushy

Avocets were great here with 5 incubating pairs and a family of 3 young still doing ok. A fine 2nd Summer Med Gull was a first for many of the group. A Little Ringed Plover was in here mid morning along with two 1st Summer Med Gulls.

Decoy

Thanks to the ringers in the Decoy, the group loved seeing, Greenfinch and Song Thrush in the hand.

South Lake

The Black Tailed Godwits were great as usual with nice close views and a few very colourful birds. Among them was just one Ruff but another first for many of the Group. A pair of Cranes were over the back of the scrape as well as several Avocet youngsters. Everyone managed to get good views of a Whitethroat and a Common Tern flew over with a fish and a Kingfisher dashed past.

Kingfisher Hide and South Finger.

Kingfishers still very active feeding young, good views of Reed Warblers and Reed Bunting, singing Cettis and breeding Lapwing somewhat distant across the fields. Disappointed to only hear Cuckoo after watching 3 together here yesterday.

Estuary

A trip to the estuary after breakfast found two Wheatears very close and best of all three Whimbrel in field behind sea wall, back in the Tack Piece 7 Cranes dropped in including the Slimbridge youngster and possibly the 2015 young bird from Wiltshire.

Cattle Egret

Two to watch out for on the way home in fields near the canal.
