A summer storm

The heat wave has taken a break as a summer storm blew up with heavy showers at times.

Rushy Hide

Juvenile Wood Sandpiper and a juvenile Black-tailed Godwit (likely to be limosa) the highlights but Common Sandpiper, 3 Green Sandpiper and a Snipe also seen. Oystercatcher and Lapwing on the top pond islands. A party of Yellow Wagtail came in during the day, likely to be from the Tack Piece (cattle herd). The Crane family were seen.

Common Sandpiper on the scrape with 5 Lapwing.

Holden Tower

Peregrine and Marsh Harrier early morning, 40+ Curlew over the tide with 6 feeding on the newly cut hay areas. At least 19 Great Black-backed Gull roosted over high tide.

Middle Point

Yellow-legged Gull, 11 Whimbrel (8 juveniles), 20+ Curlew and 40+ Shelduck.

South Lake

12 Ruff, Common Sandpiper, 30+ Redshank, 140+ Black-tailed Godwit, 33 Dunlin, 10 Lapwing and an Oystercatcher seen on the wader scrape. 200 Black-headed Gull, Common Gull and a few Lesser-black-backed Gulls. Two juvenile Great Crested Grebe noted with at least one adult and a few sightings of Kingfisher. A large raft of duck were sheltering from the summer storm along the causeway including Teal and Shoveler. At least 4 Sand Martins fed over the lake.

Top New Piece/Zeiss Hide

The three breeding plumaged adult Curlew Sandpipers were still present with 70+ Dunlin, a Turnstone, Green Sandpiper, Greenshank, 4 Redshank, 15+ Avocet, 110+ Lapwing, 2+ Snipe and 30+ Black-tailed Godwit.

Bottom New Piece

The Crane family (Oakie/Sherbert + chick) and 10 Barnacle Geese feeding on the field.
