All about The Dumbles

Another big high tide and another morning with lots of action on The Dumbles with flocks of several species making the most of the fresh feeding opportunities whilst trying to evade the ever present Peregrine!

One of the best places to be this morning with thousands of birds on The Dumbles including large numbers of Golden Plover, Dunlin, Lapwing, Ringed Plover, Teal, Ruff, Redshank and Curlew all busy feeding and occasionally taking to the skies to avoid the Peregrine.  Also present were lots of Shelduck, Wigeon, Pintail and amongst the mixed geese flock were at least 28 White-fronted Geese.  Seven Cranes also dropped in to take advantage of the tide and a few Knot and Grey Plover were mixed in with the other waders.  With this only being the start of many species arriving for winter, numbers will continue to build over the next few weeks.

A quieter morning with fewer birds being pushed in by the tide as The Dumbles is so good.  At least 4 Knot were hiding amongst the Black-tailed Godwit flock along with a few Redshank.  Several Snipe were feeding around the edges of the scrape.

The Spotted Redshank was on the scrape again with the other waders which included 21 Redshank, 7 Knot, 330 Lapwing, 25 Snipe and a few Black-tailed Godwit.  The presence of the Peregrine made the birds nervous.
