Another Black-tailed Godwit record count!

Boy, are we popular with Black-tailed Godwits this early Spring period, the reserve record has again been broken- 737 were logged during a twenty minute counting blitz this morning.

Zeiss Hide

16 Avocet, at least 8 Knot, 2 Redshank, 8 Wigeon, Ruff and Sand Martins feeding over the flood.

South Lake

Three singing Willow Warbler Warblers outside the Discovery Hide, 8 Black-tailed Godwit, 5 Avocet, 2 pairs of Little Grebe, 3 Great Crested Grebe, 4 Oystercatcher, 6 Gadwall, 12 Shoveler and a busy Black-headed Gull colony.

From the Hogarth Hide- 28 Shoveler, 4 Gadwall, 2 Oystercatcher and Willow Warbler.

South Finger Hide

At least two singing Blackcap, singing Willow Warbler, Cetti's Warbler and Chiffchaff. A drumming Great spotted Woodpecker was in the plums and Sand Martins feeding over the fields/flashes.

Kingfisher Hide

On the Bottom New Piece- 2 Oystercatcher, 48 Golden Plover (many in full breeding plumage) + Lapwing, Teal and 20+ Shoveler.

Holden Tower (still open this morning but will close any day now)

2 Peregrine, 30 Shoveler, 51 Avocet, 4 Ruff, 89 Curlew (over the tide). Little-ringed Plover and the Black-tailed Godwits commuting between here and the Top New Piece.

Tack Piece

15 Wigeon, 15 Teal, 2 Oystercatcher, 3 Cranes, 45 Shoveler and a few Tufted Duck, Greylag and Mallard.

Rushy Hide

12 Avocet, 2 Oystercatcher, Black-tailed Godwits and 40-50 pairs of Black-headed Gull.
