Another misty dawn

The worst of the fog cleared off a bit earlier than yesterday allowing a view to the Severn estuary.

Siberian Chiffchaff- not heard or seen during a search this morning at least, one Common Chiffchaff calling near Knott Hide.

Cattle Egrets- six came in to South Lake roost at 5pm last night, none seen from 0730am today, presumably they had already gone out to the fields to feed among cattle. Look in the large field opposite Slimbridge British Legion Club/Slimbridge school.

Holden Tower

70 Dunlin, 250 Golden Plover and 300 Lapwing on the tidal saltmarsh pools, 4 E. White-fronted Geese and 100 Barnacle Geese were also just about viewable. 4 Reed Bunting were in the bushes below.

Robbie Garnett Hide

Grey Wagtail and Pied Wagtail with 50 Teal.

Rushy Pen

34 Pochard, 36 Pintail, 17 Shelduck and 160 Tufted on the top lake, Snipe and 6 Lapwing with 4 Black-tailed Godwit on the lower lake.

South Lake

It has gone a bit quiet here for waders, over the next week or so we plan to conduct seasonal work to prepare it for the wintering birds. We will pull out of the area to allow the roosting birds back in before the end of the day. Some machinery and work party days are likely over the next day or two, this is unlikely to cause much disturbance and from Monday 7 November which will cause some disturbance as we cut the island vegetation.

Teal 70, Black-tailed Godwit 4, Shoveler 57, Tufted Duck 70, Pochard 5, Cormorant 5 and Grey Heron.

Zeiss Hide

Water Rail in the channel, 500 Teal, 500 Wigeon, 20 Shoveler, 6 Redshank and 27 Black-tailed Godwit and 300 Lapwing.
