Autumn sunshine

A fine autumn day saw lots of sunshine and warm temperatures, Common Darter and Migrant Hawker dragonflies were seen as well as Small Copper Butterflies.

South Lake

A trio of Red Knot joined the 27 Redshank, 56 Black-tailed Godwit on the wader scrape, a single Ruff, 200+ Lapwing and at least 6 Snipe were also to be seen among the Teal, Shoveler and Black-headed Gulls. 70 Herring Gull and a single Great Black-backed Gull were also loafing. Two Little Grebe, the Great Crested Grebe, 8 Pochard, a Pintail and c60 Tufted Duck were on deep lake. 15 Cormorants roosted on the fences.

Zeiss Hide/Top New Piece

The new silt slubbings deposited along the West side of the field/ditch attracted 27 Ruff. Roosting on the scrape were 40 Dunlin, 1 Little Stint, 130 Lapwing, 4 Snipe and 230 Teal.

Tack Piece

Three E. White-fronted Geese were with the Greylags, 300+ Teal and 74 Wigeon on the scrape with c20 Lapwing.

Martin Smith Hide

A Kingfisher was on the posts early morning with 40+ Teal on the pool.

Rushy Hide

84 Teal, 6 Lapwing, a Redshank, female Wigeon with hybrid male Wigeon (latter present daily for last two years)

Holden Tower

Goldcrest and Chiffchaff noted.

Grounds

A few Redwing and Siskin noted over today + a few Chiffchaff.
