'Beast from the East' is biting

Many areas were frozen over (deep water the exception) the duck flocks managed to keep some sections open.

Tack Piece

400 Wigeon, 70 Teal, 30 Pintail, 10 Shoveler and an Oystercatcher.

Holden Tower

The Red-breasted Goose was among 214 Barnacle Geese, the European or Russian White-fronted Geese also arrived there (seen distantly from Zeiss Hide so not counted). Over on the Long Ground Pool a variety of duck were sheltering and a Little Grebe was fishing.

Knott Hide

About 45 Wigeon, a Snipe, 2 Little Grebe and a few Shoveler.

South Lake

2 Avocet, 3 Oystercatcher, 400 Lapwing, 1 Dunlin, 31 Ruff and 128 Black-tailed Godwit on the frozen scrape, 8 Cormorant and plenty of duck were on the deep lake.

Zeiss Hide

120 Wigeon, 60 Teal and a few Shoveler. A Water Rail was sunning itself among a group of Teal on the island.

Rushy Hide and Peng Observatory

Little Stint, 80+ Bewick's Swan, 90 Pochard, 200+ Tufted Duck, 200 Mallard, 80 Pintail and smaller numbers Teal and a pair of Gadwall.
