Bird News

Poor weather seems to have slowed down the Spring rush over the last few days with few "new" arriving.

Still lots of birds to be seen however. On the Mere a pair of Little Ringed Plovers has taken up residence joining the Avocets, Black-tailed Godwits, and Oystercatchers which are a constant presence at the moment. Ruff numbers have dropped off, with only a couple of birds remaining on the Mere, and a single Dunlin has been present for the last few days. At least 4 Whooper Swans (not including the injured birds which remain here all Summer) still remain on the Mere, Barn Owls are still showing occasionally first thing in the morning and late afternoon, and a pair of Mediterranean Gulls joined the Black-headed Gull colony this afternoon.

A Hobby which has been seen on several occasions, sometimes giving excellent views was not reported today, but has 'disappeared' before since it was first sighted last week. At least 3 Marsh Harriers were present today, last seen late afternoon circling and gaining height and so may have only been passing through - it's been almost 2 weeks since the last report of Marsh Harrier on site!

Cetti's Warbler continues to sing near the Kingfisher hide, with occasional sightings by the more patient (or lucky) amongst us.
