Bittern bonanza

Its been a great few days for Bittern sightings on the South Finger, with birds seen from Zeiss Hide, Kingfisher Hide and the Van de Bovenkamp Hide.  At least two birds have been seen this morning so if you're visiting now the fog has cleared be sure to head down and see what you can see!  We've got lots of photos and videos on our Twitter profile of the Bitterns.  Check them out here.

Zeiss Hide

Much of the scrape was still frozen this morning and hidden in dense fog.  At least 5 Reed Bunting were feeding close to the hide and a Cetti's Warbler was very vocal in the reedbed.  A Marsh Harrier flew north mid-morning.

Kingfisher Hide

We've had reports of 2 Bitterns seen this morning.  A Water Rail was calling from the reedbed too and ducks on the pond included a mix of Shoveler, Teal and Gadwall.

South Lake Hides

A great mix of duck on the deep lake including Teal, Gadwall, Shoveler, Pochard, Pintail, Shelduck, Tufted Duck and the ever present Mallard.  Look out for the Great Crested Grebe and Little Grebe who have been present too during the cold weather.
