Bittern booming

The Bittern is still present and was heard on Monday and Wednesday morning in the reed bed area best looked for from Harrier Hide, also in this area today a pair of Cuckoo's seen mating in the reed bed. Also another 2 different Cuckoo's one in the collection and one distantly on fence posts.

A few waders on site with a group of 5 Ruff (1 male 4 fem), apparently the male was seen displaying to females yesterday from UU Hide looking onto Woodend marsh. Also at least 50 Black-tailed Godwit, 4 Ringed Plover on Woodend Marsh and 4 Little Ringed Plover on the Mere occasionally display flighting around .

Up to 3 different Barn Owls were out hunting this morning on the reserve and a single Marsh Harrier 2nd cal female was seen again.

Still 2 Common Tern on Woodend Marsh looking set to breed. A few male Whitethroats around the site singing, also Cetti's Warbler, Reed Warbler, Sedge Warbler to be seen in the reed bed areas.
