Be a Nature Explorer this summer

Calling all nature explorers – your passport is issued, your expedition is set, your summer adventure is waiting at WWT Washington Wetland Centre!

Splash, hunt and dip your way through our wetlands this season to become a Super Nature Explorer, with fun family activities to enjoy and unforgettable close-up wildlife just waiting to be discovered.

Go on a mini beast hunt or pond-dip for watery creatures. Meet incredible wetland wildlife including cheeky otters, pink flamingos and endangered geese. Or take part in special events like campfire cooking, bug handling sessions and a birds of prey day.

Children can pick up a free Nature Explorers Passport at the admissions desk from Saturday 18 July-Monday 31 August and complete the 8 challenges to receive a special gold sticker.

And if you don’t have enough time to fill in your passport on the day, you can visit again for free to complete your mission any time during the summer*.

Marketing manager Leanne McCormella said: “Being a Nature Explorer at WWT Washington is great fun for all the family and helps to spark kids’ interest in all sorts of wildlife and habitats.

“Being able to explore the natural world is one of the most valuable gifts you can give children and encourages them to protect nature in the future.

“Our enthusiastic staff and volunteers are ready and raring for an unforgettable summer of wild adventure, so why not come along and join us?”

Whatever the season, come rain or shine, WWT Washington Wetland Centre is the perfect place for you to connect with nature.

Open 364 days a year, we’re an award-winning wetland nature reserve with 103 acres of wildlife-filled wetlands, meadows and woodlands to enjoy. Plus accessible pathways, family-friendly facilities, a waterside cafe, gift shop and wet adventure play area.

What’s more, every penny spent here supports the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust’s (WWT’s) vital conservation work both here and internationally.

WWT is a charity that saves wetlands, which are essential for life itself. Every day we’re at the heart of issues like well-being, nature, climate change and education.

*Until 31 August 2015 when accompanied by a full paying adult. Or if you are a WWT member your child can bring a friend for free.
