Children love playing poo-ology at Arundel Wetland Centre
Its all part of the fun at Ecoteers Adventure during February half term.
Children love to make a mess and the chance to create bird poo has proven popular at WWT Arundel Wetland Centre. ‘Poo-ology’ is one of the activities in the Bird Zone of Ecoteer Adventure week during February half term at Arundel Wetland Centre. Children use oatmeal, coffee grounds, cotton wool and other hand-friendly ingredients to simulate the grains, insects and small mammals consumed by wildfowl at the centre. ‘’Children analyse the mixtures they create using the ‘Poo Clues’ wheel to see what kind of bird produce what kind of poo’’ says Claire Drew, WWT Arundel Learning Manager. ‘’We have added new Ecoteers events for half term but we had to bring back Poo-ology because it was so popular!’’
Ecoteers Adventure has four indoor zones for children offering crafts and activities about birds, animals, plants and insects. While outside families can hand feed wildfowl from around the world, visit the Tree Creepers and Pond Skaters play areas or take a free Wetland Discovery Boat Safari. On weekends there will be a ‘Guide in the Hide’ who will help visitors identify species using scopes, binoculars and expert knowledge.
In the Plant zone children will plant a sunflower sand decorate the pots to take home. Dragonflies are the theme in the Insect zone and children can contribute to giant mammal hand collages in the Animal Zone. Little hands can use colouring stations supplied in each zone.
Ecoteers Adventure runs February 19-27 at Arundel Wetland Centre, Mill Road, Arundel BN18 9PB.
