Clear blue skies and again more sunshine

Again the day started warm but with barely a cloud to be seen in the sky. Temperatures are still set to stay high so looks like another day of lovely weather.

Rushy

At least 9 avocets were seen here, 2 of which are on eggs, and 3 little chicks can be seen following closely to their parent. Black-headed gull chicks are also present being cared for by their parents, with 1 adult still incubating.

Holden Tower and Tack Piece

Just over the bridge near the Martin Smith Hide were a brood of 12 shelduck ducklings closely following their parents. The lapwing still has at least 2 chicks, with 2 other adults seen on the Tack Piece. Five redshank were present, 2 of which were having a bit of a squabble. A little egret again was among the reeds from the Martin Smith Hide, with 14 barnacle geese in the background. Towards the Holden Tower lots of warblers can be heard singing, in particular a sedge warbler, and a pair of goldfinches can be seen in the trees from the Holden. A grey heron was here briefly before flying off to perch in a tree.

Zeiss Hide

Again more avocets can be seen feeding, at least 8. The crane trio were also present here again wading out into the water. More warblers could be heard singing and glimpses being seen briefly in the reeds.

South Lake

One crane was sat on the nest still incubating their eggs. Two avocets were also still incubating and 20 adults were seen feeding. There are now a range of size of avocet chicks, at least 4 were seen. Again more black-headed gull chicks were seen and a singular oystercatcher was on the island. The black-tailed godwit flock consisted of at least 74 individuals this morning, with them really looking the part in the sun. Two cormorants were also seen sitting and looking over the lake.
