Bewick's swans

Rushy

After a clear calm night 5 more Bewicks were on the Rushy this morning bringing the total to 9. Pintail Pochard and 200 Teal all looking great and the odd redshank and a single Little Stint are spending a lot of time here. Watch out for the Little Grebe and great close up views of Lapwing.

Martin Smith Hide

A couple of Snipe nice and close here and patience will be rewarded with Water Rail (heard calling this morning).

Robbie Garnett Hide

Around 200 Teal and 150 Wigeon using the flash with two Cranes and a gang of 28 Curlew further out. A water Rail sprinted in fronted of the hide, this species seems to be everywhere just now.

Holden Tower

Rather quiet here but 3 Cranes further out, the Barnacle flock and presumably the Redbreast in the distance. A Peregrine was out over the estuary, chaffinch and Reed Bunting close to the hide.

Zeiss Hide

Around 300 Dunlin roosting here among 200 Lapwing and a scattering of Golden Plover. Snipe are great with at least 20 birds scattered around the edges whereever a little rush stubble has been retained, who knows how many are actually out there A few Black Tailed Godwit the odd Redshank an Avocet and 1 Ruff completed the set.

Kingfisher Hide

Stunning birdwatching again in this field, packed with 200 Golden Plover 500 Lapwing, 300 Dunlin, 30 Black Tailed Godwit, 32 Curlew and a group of around 20 Ruff moving between the wet grassland to the west and the furloughed field to the east. The Whitefront flock were so close that they were difficult to count through the reeds, there was  an increase to 22 yesterday and there were at least that many and possibly more.

South Lake

Lots of movement between here and the south end of the reserve but there were 60 Black Tailed Godwit, 80 Dunlin, 8 Redshank and a Spotted Redshank around 10.00. There were 70 each of Tufted and Pochard and 12 Cormorant were around the lake. Try the Hogarth Hide for some good close snipe viewing.
