Conservation Project: make a dormouse box

Build a dormouse box at home and donate it to our Reserve Team to help us continue to survey our dormouse population at Arundel.

We've got another Conservation Citizen Science project for you - grab your hammer to help us survey for dormice.

In 2008 we discovered we had an active population of dormice in the hedgerows of Arundel Wetland Centre. Since then, we have provided nesting habitat in the form of wooden dormouse boxes around our site. Our wardens survey the boxes between April and October, checking for signs of dormice, comparing their activity month on month and year on year to build conservation data.

Currently many of these wooden boxes are breaking down and need replacing.

Can you help? Can you make us a dormouse box?

For this project we would like our supporters to make a dormouse box at home, then donate the completed box to Arundel Wetland Centre. If you can build a bird house you can make a dormouse box.

We urgently need 20 new boxes for the start of survey season in April.

If you are handy and want to help please email our Reserve Manager suzi.lanaway@wwt.org.uk to register your interest and we will send you our Dormouse Box specifications and plans so you can get started!
