Countryside wedding or city celebration? London Wetland Centre offers both

London Wetland Centre is best known for its wide-open nature reserve and eye-catching wildlife. Amidst the hustle and bustle of visitor activities and animal husbandry, you might not notice that it also offers a stunning venue for weddings and events. Over the past 15 years, the centre has welcomed hundreds of couples who have tied their knot while supporting wildlife and wetland conservation. Couples embark on their future together surrounded by the wonderful oasis of this urban wetland. If you are looking for the perfect wedding venue, here are three things you should know about the London Wetland Centre’s wedding facilities.

1. You can have a country wedding without leaving London

If you are looking for a place that adds a “wow” factor to the special occasion without breaking the bank, you might not have to look far. Nestled close to Hammersmith on the banks of the River Thames, London Wetland Centre offers a stunning backdrop to celebrate your wedding day. From the moment you and your guests arrive, you will be greeted by the centre’s 105-acre open space and fresh air. Inside, the party can move through sparkling ponds, tall reeds and rustic paths, which offer the perfect background for wedding photography. Between tranquil bird flight above and large swaths of wildflower meadows, your photographer will have an abundance of romantic scenery to choose from. Being 30 minutes away from London Waterloo Station and London Victoria Station, the centre offers the convenience of a city capital while infusing your wedding celebration with rustic charm and an oasis of calm.

2. London Wetland Centre is a licensed ceremony venue

The centre is a licensed ceremony venue in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. That means it can accommodate both the ceremony and the reception in one location. This saves you the added stress of travelling between venues, leaving more time for savouring the special day.  Registrars will meet you at the venue to register and conduct your ceremony in either the Observatory with its grandiose floor-to-ceiling glass offering a window over the reserve and London skyline, or the quaint, secluded and thatched Fisherman’s cottage that is Wetland Living – nestled secretly amid the reed beds in the nature reserve itself.

3. Make your wedding celebration more meaningful by supporting conservation

Venue hire is an important source of income for the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, a charity that advocates for the protection of wetland wildlife and their habitats. Choosing a nature-friendly wedding venue means you are directly contributing to the charity’s conservation, education, research and visitor attraction aspirations. As a thank-you, WWT offer all couples a one-year membership, allowing you to visit all 10 centres throughout the UK to see the work they are undertaking. Many couples continue to enjoy WWT’s facilities after their wedding, sharing the space with their family. We also found that many wedding guests share our passion in supporting conservation and go on to become members or regular visitors.

Where else in London can you get married surrounded by beautiful wetlands and wildlife, while supporting important conservation and research?
