Cuckoos and Kingfishers

The South Finger area was very busy with sightings this morning, from the Kingfisher Hide a couple of Cuckoos were chasing about and perching up along the channel trees, the Hawthorn May blossom looks great here at the moment. The Crane family from the Top New Piece had ranged a bit further into the Bottom New Piece and Redshank were on the far flood. A male Yellow Wagtail was singing from the wheat crop and fence posts along the South side of the Four Score. The Kingfishers were very active and taking numerous larger fish into the nest hole. Other species noted here included Grey Heron, Reed, Cetti's and Sedge Warblers, Reed Bunting, 2 Gadwall, 2 Shoveler, and two Tufted Duck.

Middle Point

The male White-spotted Bluethroat was reported on the sticks at aprrox 1345hrs.

South Lake

Crane pair with one chick, 75+ Avocet (plenty of chicks), Black-tailed Godwit, Little Grebe, 10 Tufted Duck, 6 Gadwall, 12 Shelduck and 2 Oystercatcher.
