Eight species of Raptor!

A flock of 66 Curlew dropped in along the back of the Mere for an hour mid morning.

Two Common Sandpiper on the Mere. At least 2 Little Ringed Plover, 17 Ruff, 70+ Avocet, 40+ Lapwing, 4 Redshank, 50+ Black-tailed Godwit, 6 Oystercatcher and Ringed Plover.

A Red Kite that flew in mid afternoon took the reserve raptor tally to eight species! Ringtail Hen Harrier and Merlin from the Ron Barker Hide around midday, also Marsh Harrier. An immature Peregrine was hunting around the reserve mid morning. Common Buzzard, Kestrel and Sparrowhawk.


A flock of 24 Fieldfare between Marsh Moss Lane and the reserve.

A small group of 11 Pink-footed Geese dropped in mid morning (still thousands on the coast locally).

Two adult Med Gull and a immature from the Ron Barker Hide.

White Wagtail on the Mere late afternoon.

So far today 84 species of bird have been recorded.
