The much-loved GIANT LEGO® sculptures have returned to Martin Mere Wetland Centre in Burscough, Lancashire, after over two years.
The LEGO® brick sculptures have been exclusively designed for WWT and are displayed around the wetland centre. Visitors can enjoy the trail of fifteen individually-designed 4ft (1.5m) LEGO® brick characters, inspired by real species at Martin Mere. Included are a large North American river otter, a pelican, a kingfisher and a fabulous flamingo. Over 250,000 LEGO® bricks were used to make the wetland characters, which took over 1,500 hours!
Nick Brooks, Martin Mere’s General Manager, said: “We are very excited to welcome back these amazing sculptures to Martin Mere. The characters look fantastic, and one of my favourites is the short-eared owl which took a whopping 37,900 bricks and 136 hours to make! Families can explore our amazing wetlands to search for the sculptures and also see our real-life wetland superstars such as our nenes, southern screamers and inca terns.
“Families can also head towards the exhibition hall to have a go at building their own wetland sculptures at our LEGO® play table.”
As well as the LEGO® sculptures, visitors can expect a range of activities such as daily wild bird feeds, guided walks, and guides in our hides which all highlight the migratory birds spending the winter at Martin Mere, including whooper swans, pink-footed geese and wigeons.
