Eleven Marsh harriers a female hen harrier in the afternoon roost

Recent wildlife sightings at Arundel Wetland Centre.

Last Thurs 2 Jan we had eleven marsh harriers and one female hen harrier arrive in the late afternoon to roost in the reedbeds at Arundel Wetland Centre overnight. This is the highest number we have recorded yet this Winter 2019-20.

Here are recent sightings by our wardens at various spots around the reserve:


Wed 1 Jan

Scrape hide: 31 teal, 10 gadwall, 1 little egret, 2 tufted ducks

Ramsar hide: 2 cattle egrets

Arun Riverlife: 1 peregrine

Woodland Loop: 1 water rail


Thurs 2 Jan

Arun Riverlife: 4 pochard

Lapwing hide: 1 lapwing

Ramsar/Sand Martin hide: 5 snipe, 3 lapwing, 1 pochard, 2 Egyptiian geese

Scrape hide: kingfisher.

Reedbeds: 1 little egret, 1 water rail, 11 marsh harriers, 1 hen harrier.


Fri 3 Jan

Arun Riverlife: 4 pochard.

Ramsar/Sand Martinn hide: 2 snipe, 11 lapwing, 7 pochard, 2 Egyptian geese.

Woodland Loop: 1 pheasant, 3 moorhen, 5 great tits, 13 blue tits, 2 chaffinches, 1 water rail, 1 dunnock, 1 nuthatch.
