Barnies are Back!
The first Barnacle Geese of the Autumn were heard yesterday flying over Caerlaverock! This is the joint earliest date for them to be returning back. This morning 21 of them were feeding out on the Merse to the west of the reserve, mixed in with the cows, as seen from Saltcot Merse Observatory. The Pink-footed Geese continue to arrive with skeins going overhead on a daily basis now and birds also observed feeding out on the saltmarsh . It was a good day yesterday on Folly Pond with over 800 Teal, 60 Shoveler, 18 Black-tailed Godwit, Curlew, Lapwing, Mallard, Wigeon and Moorhen!
The Pasture Pathway, Meadow and River Walks are now all closed for the season.
