First frost and new arrivals

First frost for the autumn yesterday making the reserve look fantastic. At least 400 Whooper Swan present at the moment and 6000+ Pink-footed Geese roosting. We will have a proper count tomorrow. A single Barnacle Goose came in with ~ 300 Pink-footed Geese late afternoon.

Raptors are still providing the most entertainment with 3 Peregrine (see to catch a Teal), 2+ Marsh Harrier, 5 Common Buzzard, 2 Kestrel and Sparrowhawk. A dead Pink-footed Goose provided a hearty meal for Great Black-backed Gull, 2 Raven, 3 Carrion Crow, Magpie and Grey Heron.

Around the reserve, 2 Stonechat, 20+ Skylark and a few Redwing feeding on Hawthorn along the Naturetrail. Kingfisher showing from the Ron Barker Hide.
