First Whooper Swan Family Returns

The North-westerly breezes the past few days has led to an influx of returning Whooper Swans, with reports of over 40 birds in the local area. There are currently 13 birds on the Whooper Pond including our first family group. Eric Anthony has returned with 4 cygnets! We presume that his mate Elsie Barbara is also there but she has lost her Darvic leg ring so we will need to confirm via the code on the BTO metal leg ring (slightly harder to get!) Please see the table below for returned Named Swans. We will keep this updated as the Winter progresses. Barnacle Goose numbers continue to rise with over 6,500 birds counted this week during one of our daily surveys. We have also seen the first of the Autumn Thrushes with a Redwing spotted down at Saltcot Merse Observatory. Autumn really is here!!
