Wisbech & FenlandMuseum is one of the oldest purpose-built museums in the country, located in an attractive part of the historic Fenland market town of Wisbech, close to St Peter’s Church and the fine Georgian Crescent It opened its doors in 1847. The well-preserved and splendid main and upper galleries of the Museum display a remarkable collection of rare and eclectic artifacts, representing both local and worldwide history, recent and ancient. Complete with most of its original furniture, the Museum is a treasure house where visitors can step back in time to the heyday of the Victorian museum. From regular art exhibitions and natural science displays to the Anti-Slavery campaigner Thomas Clarkson’s travelling chest and notable Egyptian and Roman antiquities, the wide-ranging selection here ensures there is something to interest everyone.
