Fog-less

Local forecasts suggested dense fog for this morning but we ended up having a very calm, clear sunny day.

65+ Bewick's Swans at the morning feed, 73 are on site.

350 Teal and 200 Wigeon managed to keep one section free of ice with 220 Lapwing on the bank. With the thaw many of the wetlands birds headed here for the day.

At least two Water Rails.

Holden Tower

Lots of passerines early morning, Song Thrush, Wren, Dunnock, Reed Bunting, Fieldfare and Goldcrest in the bushes, a pair of Stoenchat at Middle Point and a few Meadow Pipit and Pied Wagtails on the scrape. A Water Rail was feeding below the tower on the edge of the gate puddle and on the path.

Zeiss Hide

Two Water Rails feeding on the silt slubbings. A single Bewick's Swan spent most of the morning on the ice free section of the flood.

Kingfisher Hide

5 Greylag, 69 Snipe, 150 Dunlin and 300 Teal on the distant flood, a flock of 100+ Golden Plover arrived on the field this afternoon despite the excavator work.

Water Rail, nearby 53 White-fronted Geese were on the Tin shed field for a time this morning.
