Four Marsh Harriers
At least four Marsh Harriers are on site today, possibly five individuals. The fields to the North of the centre seem to be the favoured spot but they range about the reserve and can be encountered anywhere about the site. We had fairly close views of four from the Wild Safari this morning, all were 'cream crowns' but of various ages.
Wild Safaris
4-5 Marsh Harrier, Spaarowhawk, 2 Kestrel, 5 Whinchats, 3 Spoonbills, Grass Snakes, Brown Hawker egg laying and three Cranes among the highlights.
Rushy Hide
186 Black-tailed Godwit, Spotted Redshank, 3 Ruff, 11 Redshank, 2 Green Sandpiper + feeding Teal and Shoveler, Great Egret early morning.
Tack Piece
Common and 4 Green Sandpiper and 5 Snipe
South Lake
At least three Snipe, 11 Cattle Egrets and an eclipse Garganey plus four Ruff.
Top New Piece
Two Garganey, 12 Ruff (adult male and two females, the rest were juveniles), 5 Black-tailed Godwit, 2 juvenile Little-ringed Plover, 7 Green Sandpiper, 5 Grey Heron, 2 Cattle and 2 Little Egret, 2 juvenile Little Grebe and 34 Lapwing among the birds present
Middle Point
The Harbour Seal was seen again on the flood tide this morning.
900 hirundines, majority of which (c800) Sand Martins resting on the sands early morning, 3 Spoonbill, 2 Turnstone, 3 Greenshank, Sanderling with the Ringed Plover/Dunlin flock + Curlew and the Grasshopper Warbler has been making short reeling bursts.
