Garganey

Our first pair of Garganey (picture from library) arrived today, these summer visitors are always a welcome sight. A pair were resting and feeding on the Tack Piece for much of the day.

Tack Piece

Spoonbill, 3 Snow Geese, 15 Shoveler, 2 Lapwing, 2 Oystercatcher, 2 Avocet, 110 Wigeon, drake Pintail + Tufted Duck, Teal, Mute Swan, Moorhen and Little Egret all noted here today with an adult Dark-bellied Brent Goose appearing later today, this bird was initially on the Duck Decoy Pond, probably a first for the site, the field and flood were busier by the afternoon.

Estuary Tower

202 Russian and 2 Greenland White-fronted Geese, 2 Pink-footed Geese, 26 Shoveler, 10 Avocet, 4 Golden Plover, 26 Curlew, 9 Lapwing, 3 Redshank and 2 Peregrine.

Car Park

Two Little-ringed Plover over S relocated to the Canal Ground (viewed from Glos to Sharpness towpath).

Rushy Hide

A male Ruff attaining blonde/ginger breeding plumage but flew off to the Top New Piece, another different bird was present early afternoon, 2 Snipe, 11 Black-tailed Godwit and 25 Avocet.

South Lake

Three Goldeneye, second winter Mediterranean Gull, 6 Cattle Egret, 66 Avocet and c40 Black-tailed Godwits among the many species seen today.
