Geese

A party of 3 adult European White-fronted Geese were with c1000 Pink-feet in fields along Curlew Lane this morning.

A Barnacle Goose dropped into Plover Field at the back of the Mere mid afternoon with a few hundred Pink-footed Geese. The Green-winged Teal is being seen most days at the moment but no reports today.

Water Rails continue to show well from Ron Barker and UU Hides at the moment, one was seen to take a Frog/Toad in front of UU Hide this afternoon.

Up to 4 Oystercatcher are the first returning Spring waders on site in the continuing mild conditions. Still 55+ Ruff and 40+ Black-tailed Godwit and in recent days a single Dunlin.

Still excellent numbers of Pintail, Wigeon and Teal around the reserve as well as smaller numbers of Gadwall, Tufted Duck and Pochard. Good numbers of Whooper Swans roosting overnight 1500, but lower numbers using the reserve during the day at the moment.
