Café kitchen closure

From 8–17 September, our café kitchen will be closed for refurbishment. During this time, our front-of-house will remain open, offering a selection of cakes and ice cream, sandwiches, and drinks. You will also be able to visit our kiosks by the play areas.

Up to 3 Wood Sandpiper being seen on Woodend Marsh. Also there Greenshank (new in), 5 Ringed Plover, 2 Little Ringed Plover, 2 Redshank, 8 Avocet and 20+ Black-tailed Godwit (the first large-ish group for a week).

Drake Garganey on Woodend Marsh.

Common Sandpiper, 2 Little Ringed Plover, 8 Avocet and 11 Oystercatcher on the Mere. Also 2 Common Tern.

House Martin, Sand Martin and Swallow feeding low over the Mere. A good influx of Swift today with 20+ feeding over the reserve early afternoon.

The two Tawny Owl pairs are doing well with both having 2, now twelve day old chicks.

A quick breeding Lapwing survey produced 28 chicks some being at least 3 days old and two now 11 days old.

A Bar-headed Goose on the Mere this morning probably isn't lost from it's epic migration over the Himalayas to the Central Asian breeding grounds. Lovely species nonetheless. (pic by Maria Scullion)
