Grounded passerines...

The wet weather of the previous two days and misty conditions this morning have delivered a variety of migrant passerines (perching birds). The saltmarsh and foreshore fields had at least 240 Meadow Pipit, 25+ Reed Bunting, 3 Wheatear, 110 Linnet and a few Stonechat. The Dumbles was the most productive place to see these flocks.

Holden Tower

A male Blackcap and 7+ Chiffchaff were in the bushes below. 15 Cranes flew in from the east to rest on the Dumbles late morning. Over the tide a Ringed Plover, 7 Grey Plover, 20 Curlew and 2 Dunlin were seen as well as c60 Shelduck. A flock of 55 Pintail and 200 Wigeon were floating near the spartina island over high tide.

Teal

Rushy Pen Hide

The three Little Grebe, 8 Lapwing, 2 Redshank and variety of duck species all still present.

South Lake

At least one Curlew Sandpiper, 120 Black-tailed Godwit, 10 Redshank and later in the day a few Ruff joined the Teal, Tufted Duck and Greylag Goose flocks. A Green Sandpiper skulked at the back of the scrape.

Zeiss Hide/Top New Piece

Singles of Curlew Sandpiper, Spotted Redshank and Knot were seen among 2 Golden Plover, 2 Ringed Plover,  4 Redshank, 12 Ruff, 5 Dunlin and 2 Snipe. A 1000+ Teal day roosted with 150 Wigeon.
