Happy Christmas!

Happy Christmas to you all out there. We are coming down to the last few sightings up date before 2018 commences. If we get it together we'll do a highlights of 2017 before the end of the year.

Very mild in the past couple of days and with the wind getting up no fog!

The wildfowl counts are similar to the mid week ones across 14 species present, perhaps a few more Pink-footed Geese around?

Waders include 1000+ Lapwing, c100 Ruff, 50+ Black-tailed Godwit, 20+ Snipe, Redshank and 2 Green Sandpiper, the later in front of the Harrier Hide.

The usual raptors with 6 Buzzard, 3 Marsh Harrier, 3 Kestrel, 2 Sparrowhawk and Peregrine.

Other sightings included Tawny Owl near the Tun Village, female Brambling again from the Kingfisher Hide, Great-spotted Woodpecker from the Janet Kear Hide and Kingfisher in front of the Ron Barker Hide. At least 4 Stonechat out on the reserve fields fence posts and 2+ Cetti's Warbler on the Reed Bed. Report of the day goes to a Honey Bee on the wing!

Just off the reserve 50+ Fieldfare, 6 Grey Partridge and Corn Bunting on Curlew Lane.
