A Happy New Year to all our readers

A count of 76 species was made on site this morning, so it's certainly possible with a bit of luck to get around 80 species or more on site at the moment.The major sighting of the day was of a reported 3 Twite among a Linnet flock from Ron Barker Hide, the yellow bills were noted, hopefully they will be seen again in the next few days.

On the Mere over 120 Whooper Swans and 2 Mute Swans as well as Greylag Goose, Pink-footed Goose and the Swan Goose of unknown origin ;). A good assortment of duck including Goldeneye,Tufted Duck, Pochard, Wigeon, Pintail, Mallard, Teal, Shoveler and Shelduck.

Around 50+ Ruff and a few Black-tailed Godwit as well as the numerous Lapwing (c1500) and a few Snipe can be found and if you are really lucky a Woodcock might be seen.

In the Janet Kear Hide the Willow Tit continues to visit the feeding station along with Nuthatch, Blue Tit, Great Tit and Coal Tit. Among the finches here are Greenfinch, Chaffinch and Goldfinch. On the walk down to Janet Kear from the Discovery Hide were both Redwing and Fieldfare and Great Spotted Woodpecker as well as a pair of Bullfinch and the Tawny Owl was sat in the box opposite Janet Kear.

In the Woodend Marsh area was Kingfisher, Meadow Pipits and Skylark. Also here were up to 8 Little Egrets, Marsh Harrier, a few Buzzard and Peregrine.

On the Reedbed Walk a few Cetti's Warbler were heard as well as Reed Bunting, Long-tailed Tit, Gadwall and Water Rail, also a fly over Raven.

Out on Langley's area there were 5 Corn Bunting, a few Linnet, Red-legged Partridge, Carrion Crow, Rook, Stonechat, Kestrel and Sparrowhawk.

In between Discovery Hide and Ron Barker were Goldcrest,Tree Sparrows on the feeders by the toilets, Collared Dove, Mistle Thrush, Song Thrush and Pied Wagtail.

By Kingfisher Hide were Robin, Treecreeper, Woodpigeon and Little Grebe on the pool. While at Ron Barker Hide a Barn Owl and a few Snipe were seen.
