Hen Harrier and Bearded Reedlings

Starting with some belated news from the weekend with at least 8 Bearded Reedling seen on the Reed Bed Walk. Not an easy species to catch up with but time spent looking and listening around the Reed Bed can pay dividends.

The first Hen Harrier of the autumn, a ringtail, was seen well yesterday afternoon. Last winter we had regular Hen Harrier sightings. Other raptors included 3 Marsh Harrier, Peregrine, 3+ Buzzard, Sparrowhawk and Kestrel.

Waders; 500+ Lapwing, 30+ Ruff, 20+ Black-tailed Godwit, 20+ Snipe and Dunlin.

A small group of 26 Herring Gull and a few Common Gull dropped onto the Mere early afternoon.

Kingfisher from the United Utilities Hide. Six Little Egret together on site.

Numerous Stonechat across the the reserve.
