Here comes Doris

The weather is certainly picking up at Storm Doris makes herself known.  The windy conditions may be preventing the Bewick's Swans and some of our other wintering species from leaving, but once the weather system has passed we may see a big departure under clear skies and a good tail wind.  Despite this we are seeing a slight trickle of Spring birds arriving, not least the Avocets which have now increased to 25 birds, all of which can be found on the South Lake.

A few of the Bewick's Swans had made their way out on to the Dumbles before the morning feed, and will no doubt be joined by many others as the day progresses.  With the wind, the Rushy may stay busy with birds more reluctant to move.  A Peregrine was seen out over the Dumbles and the flock of 150 White-fronted Geese were on the Tack Piece.

The Avocet have increased to 25 birds and can be seen feeding and resting across the scrape, occasionally mixing amongst the flock of Black-tailed Godwit that today totaled 168 birds.  The Little Stint was also present amongst a large flock of Dunlin and a few Lapwing.  The pair of Great Crested Grebes were on the deep lake.
