Hides to close

Unfortunately our region is moving in to Tier 3 on 26th December, so our hides must close

From 26th December our region moves in to Tier 3 of the Government's coronavirus restrictions. In line with the restrictions we will unfortunately have to close all our hides until further notice.

The rest of the site will remain open, including the playgrounds and shop, and we hope to have a limited food and drink takeaway offer from the Canoe Kiosk. Our admission prices for non-members is also being reduced during this period.

Rushy Hide
Most of the Bewick's Swans had already moved out to the Tack Piece this morning. Around 8:40am eight of the Cattle Egret who had roosted in the Decoy dropped in to the Rushy. They later flew out towards the roadside field and were joined by the ninth bird. All were seen in the field next to the Tudor Arms pub just over the canal bridge from the reserve.

South Lake
A single Cattle Egret and Little Egret were on the causeway this morning, clearly they didn't get the memo to meet on the Rushy with the others. Eventually both birds left and joined the flock feeding out near the canal. The flock of Black-tailed Godwit roosted on the wader scrape, over 500 birds in all. The juvenile Great Crested Grebe was with the diving duck on the deep lake.

Estuary Tower
A well-flooded Tack piece this morning after the heavy rain yesterday and overnight. The White-fronted Goose flock was a little confused and circled several times before dropping in near the Goose House to graze on the little remaining grass not underwater. A Knot was found feeding amongst the wildfowl and waders on the floodwater.
