High Winds

South Finger and Zeiss Hide

Very strong 40+mph winds today with several limbs down on the access tracks so area closed for the morning. Winds are due to abate so will re-assess the situation at midday. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Tack Piece

Still quite Ducky here with the male Garganey the star also Wigeon 12, Gadwall 8,, Teal 18, Shoveler 12, Tufted duck 10 and Shelduck 64. Avocet 3 and Blacktailed Godwit 6 sheltering from the wind.

Rushy

Very busy with nesting B H Gulls, 21 Avocet including 34 incubating birds, Black Tailed Godwit 26 close up and actively feeding, no sign yet of the Little Ringed Plover but a common Sandpiper was showing well from the Peng Observatory.

South Lake

Masses of B H Gulls and a different set of Med Gulls among them every time you look. At least 3 1st summer birds and a 2nd Summer so far today. Great time to come and test your Gull id skills. Kingfisher active passing the hide twice in a few minutes looks like they have hatched young nearby and are beginning to feed the. Black Tailed Godwits as stunning as ever 300+ sheltering here this morning with a couple of new male Ruff among them, a lone Little Ringed Plover was at the back of the scrape. Just a handful of Avocet, not switched onto this as a breeding site yet and Great Crested Grebe and Cormorant on the main lake.
