Highlights for 20th December 2016

Holden Tower

The Dark-bellied Brent Goose was still on the Dumbles with Canada Geese and a flock of 1200 Wigeon were on the scrape.

 

Zeiss Hide/Kingfisher Hide

2500+ Lapwing feeding and of course flying about when disturbed by raptors. A flock of 23 Ruff were with the 600 strong Dunlin flock. Nine Black-tailed Godwit were feeding on the flood with Dunlin and Teal flocks also roosting along the shore line. Five Bewick's Swans were near the Van de Bovenkamp Hide.

Rushy Pen

100+ Bewick's Swans at the roost with most of the birds heading out to the fields for the day, one or two families dropped in close to hides such as Robbie Garnett and Van de Bovenkamp hides.

South Lake

The single Great Crested Grebe was joined by small numbers of Tufted Duck and Pochard, the wader scrape was at times hosting a large gathering of Lapwing plus a few Black-tailed Godwit.

White-fronted Geese

No sign of the E. White-fronted Geese today, they are probably in the Stall House field (second field NE of Tack Piece).
