Icelandic-breeding Goose Census
Today saw the first of the Icelandic-breeding Goose Census for the winter. Wardens were in early to monitor the Pink-footed Geese as they left the roost on the mudflats out from Saltcot Merse Observatory....or that was the plan at least! The Pink-foots this year have decided that they are not early risers and there are still some coming off the roost even now in the late morning. In the end several thousand were counted for this small section of the Solway. The Great Egret is back out on the Merse in front of Saltcot, a Brambling has been spotted on the feeders in the Peter Scott Trail and a Weasel was hanging around the Newfield Hide yesterday.
