Breeding Common Cranes update

The pair of Cranes that have been nesting on the Rushy are;

Monty the male (ring code black/green/red)
Sedge the female (ring code white/yellow/red)

The first youngster hatched late on the 1st of June, the pair then continued to incubate the second egg. Unfortunately it had been laid four days after the first egg, this made it difficult for the hatched youngster to get any food. However by the 6th of June the pair gave up on the second egg and led the first youngster off the island. Young cranes can swim very well. They are now feeding the youngster close to the Rushy hide and finding loads of insects in the herb rich grass. Both parents are doing an excellent job of feeding and protecting the youngster.
