Kingfisher activity

Kingfishers

The pair at the Kingfisher hide are very active, food passes, periods in the nest hole and lots of mating suggest they are laying there first clutch. A second pair are nesting near the South Lake so watch out for birds passing in front of the South Lake discovery hide. There is also a third pair at the north end of the reserve so it looking like a promising season so far.

Avocets

Probably around 60 birds on site this morning. Best is still just about the South Lake with around 25 here including a couple of pairs that have nest and maybe even eggs. The Rushy is a close second with 9 pairs parading around and sitting and nest building in the traditional sites. Further mainly feeding birds are on the Top New Piece, Tack Piece and in front of the Holden Tower.
